The Redemption Overture

Symphonic. Released April 22, 2003

This piece was written as the opening movement to a large suite called Redemption. The accompanying pieces are in various stages of construction, and number an even dozen in total. The music was written to accompany a movie, but because I have no movie to write it against, I am forced to use an imaginary film.

As one of the few currently released orchestral works in my collection, The Redemption Overture sets the tone for what is to come. I have always loved the use of pounding brass in music, and writing without a piano in the arrangement allowed me to take the string melodies to the extreme. I only wanted a small allowance for winds and light reeds, and that is exactly what I’ve accomplished in this piece of music. It is a great deal shorter than I’d anticipated, but is developed more fully in the accompanying works. Elements of this overture are already present in the Redemption: Love Theme and the Redemption: Winding Roads works.
